FAQ

What is this?

This is a project built by Kevin Owocki at Zuconnect.

Inspired by
1. my time at Zuconnect,
2. the philosophy of Practical Pluralism,
3. the recent Greenpill podcast interview with Vitalik , where he explains that public goods funding is 1 part mechanism & 1 part funding source,
4. an exploratory tweet I sent at Zuconnect ...

... I am trying to build a visual showing how funding from different funding sources is trickling through the ethereum ecosystem. Having such a visual would allow one to grasp the entirety of how the PGF space is evolving together.

I built this for the ZuConnect Hackathon.

Can I trust this data?

The data presented here is a best guess good faith representation of the ecosystem. Please do not rely on this data for financial legal tax purposes. This data is not financial advice.

This data only covers ETH ecosystem public goods in 2023. Additionally, this data is only up to date as of Nov 11 2023. Notably, GG19, EF Q3/Q4, and Optimism RPGF Round 3 data are absent from the results thus far.

I also made the rather subjective decision to not include any funding from any projects/funding sources that primarily funded only specific non-eth ecosystems. If you wish to fork out that decision you can do so here.

Get the data here. Feel free to propose edits!

Youre doing it ALL wrong!

If you have issues, please track in github or fork me.

Where can I read more about the emergent plurality of public goods funding in Ethereum?

We are building a plurality of funding sources & mechanisms to distribute funding to public goods. It will be more transparent, accountable, diverse, and meritocratic than what came before it! Check out this twitter thread to learn more.

Isnt there a plurality of many different public goods? How can we compare apples to oranges?

Yes, thats right. There are global public goods (a livable climate) and ETH public goods (funding protocol development, etc). There are also local public goods (Boulder CO public goods), and also socially-local public goods. While it is apples to oranges to compare across groups of these things... This visual tries to focus only on ETH ecosystem public goods.

Can the data only be read left to right? What about loops, like where Giveth funds Gitcoin and Gitcoin funds Giveth?

Its very cool that we can see these little circular funding flows in Eth. Maybe a future version will capture these little funding circles better.

Will you do a 2024 version of this?

Maybe.

Is there a telegram for this project?

Are public goods good?
